After learning who the team might sell this summer, Newcastle’s backroom staff is irritated and pushing back.

Newcastle United need to sell, but who goes remains to be seen.

There are several candidates looking to leave, and because of Premier League profit and sustainability regulations, the Magpies are under pressure to let someone go by June 30th.

On the other hand, there are extenuating circumstances surrounding any player Newcastle United may choose to sell.

Eddie Howe is eager to retain Callum Wilson, despite the hierarchy’s belief that it is time to move him. Furthermore, he has cautioned that it will be exceedingly costly to sign a replacement.

Next is Miguel Almiron, for whom the team is open to offers. But given that he declined the opportunity to relocate to Saudi Arabia in January, it has been implied that he would prefer to remain..

And there is Bruno Guimaraes, who no one at Newcastle wants to see leave. But there is a chance he could go, with his £100million release clause very much active. And if someone did come in with a £100million offer, it would put the Magpies in an excellent position to reinvest. But that comes with the caveat that you suddenly need to replace a world class player.

Yankuba Minteh’s Newcastle future is up in the air

To the side of the first team stars is Yankuba Minteh. After his loan stint at Feyenoord, the 19-year-old winger has generated a lot of attention, but there’s a chance he may never play for Newcastle United.

This is due to the Magpies’ willingness to offload Minteh this summer at a £40 million valuation. The Gambia international is being pursued by many teams, including Borussia Dortmund, which has given Newcastle the chance to profit from a player who has never set foot inside St. James’ Park.

It makes logical to depart in terms of PSR. However, that’s the only way it makes sense.

How some Newcastle staff feel about selling Yankuba Minteh

It would be tragic for a lot of Newcastle United supporters if the team were to profit from Minteh. And it is the opinion held by certain club members, according to HITC Football insider Graham Bailey, who discussed the adolescent’s Toon future with Geordie Boot Boys.

“It will obviously look good on the spreadsheet in terms of profit and sustainability if a good enough offer comes it,” he said.

“I believe that is how they are approaching it.

“I am aware that there has been a lot of resistance among some backroom personnel members. After such a successful loan period at Feyenoord, they really want to give him a chance.

“In an ideal world, I think Eddie Howe would like to give him a chance, but it is not an ideal world that we are living in with profit and sustainability.

“Will someone pay £40million for him? It is going to be a push to get that amount. If a good enough offer comes in, I think they will sell, but there is quite a few people at the club who would at least like Eddie Howe to have a look at him this summer.”

Newcastle must push to keep Minteh

From a financial perspective, getting £40million for a player who cost £6million just 12 months earlier is a no-brainer.

But if someone is willing to pay that much for Minteh, it should tell Newcastle that they are making a mistake. He is an immensely talented attacker with a huge amount of potential, and someone who could develop into a star at St James’ Park.

During a summer in which Newcastle are aiming to sign a winger, it seems crazy to think they are actually looking to sell someone who could develop into exactly what they are looking for.

Of course, the big problem is PSR, and if Minteh is the only player they can realistically sell then he might have to go. But the fear will be that it is a decision that the Magpies live to regret, with some people behind the scenes at St James’ Park eager for Minteh to stay.
