Unai Emery and Steven Gerrard concur as Everton approaches their first summer addition.

Despite having made eighteen appearances for Aston Villa, Tim Iroegbunam is rumored to be close to joining Everton.
According to reports, Everton is getting closer to making their first move of the summer transfer season.

Tim Iroegbunam is in discussions to leave Aston Villa with the Toffees. According to reports, Sean Dyche’s team will pay the midfield player somewhere around £10 million.

With Villa set to bring in former Goodison Par has only played in 15 Villa games. He’s still only twenty and just starting off in his career. He also had a successful loan stint at QPR during the 2022–2023 campaign, where he scored twice in 32 games.

It’s also accurate to state that Iroegbanum was well regarded by both of the managers that had him at Villa Park. The England youth international was elevated to the first team by Steven Gerrard. Iroegbunam was benched a month after Gerrard took over as Villa’s manager in November 2021, but he would go on to be a consistent replacement. He made his debut on February 22 in a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Two months later, Villa defeated Norwich City 2-0 to earn his complete debut.

Gerarrd praised 18-year-old Iroegbanum after the game and gave him great hopes for the future.

For Tim, every day is important. According to the Shropshire Star, Gerrard stated, “He’s a real good professional, he just needs to find his voice and come out of his shell.” “He must acknowledge that he is now a member of the first team, speak up more, and never stop challenging himself every day.

“In my opinion, he possesses every quality needed to be a good Premier League player. We will continue to work on and grow him. From a training perspective, he is still establishing relationships and growing accustomed to the intensity.

“He’s got a really exciting future in front of him and he needs to take confidence and belief with the trust and opportunity he has had in the last few weeks. There will be plenty more for him moving forward if he keeps training consistently well.”

After having a fruitful loan at QPR, Iroegbanum returned to Villa Park last summer. He had a new manager in Unai Emery who he had to impress – and achieved that.

Iroegbanum proved to be a valuable member of the squad even though midfielders John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Jacob Ramsay were ahead in the standings. Regarding January, Emery emphasized his belief in the child. Instead of loaning Iroegbanum out to get additional experience, he made the decision that Leander Dendoncker would go.

Through the Athletic, Emery gave his explanation for his choice, saying, “I opted to keep Tim and to let Dendoncker go. I will endeavor to provide him with opportunities to advance in our building endeavors.

“When I watched him on loan and now training every day, I believe in his potential. I kept him because I thought he would take more minutes than Dendoncker. We had to be strong in the decision.”

Iroegbanum made a total of 15 appearances in the 2023-24 season to help Villa qualify finish fourth in the Premier League – and qualify for the Champions League.

But with Everton short of options in the engine room after the exit of Andre Gomes, as well as Amadou Onana’s future uncertain, it appears that Iroegbanum could make the switch to Merseyside.
