Stryjek enrolled at Sunderland’s academy during the Black Cats’ Premier League season in 2015.

The Polish goalie was later loaned to Eastleigh, Accrington Stanley, and Boston United. Additionally, he appeared on the Sunderland bench in two different Wembley finals. He never did, however, play for the Black Cats in a competitive first-team game.

He left in 2019 to play permanently for a year at Eastleigh before traveling to Scotland to play for Livingston. He joined Wycombe in League One after spending three years north of the line, where he played for the final two years before being cut loose this summer.

But his absence from a club did not last long. After returning home, Stryjek joined with Jagiellonia Bialystok, the Polish champions.

The goalie’s new team, who had never before won the Polish premier league, will now play in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

Stryjek, who was well-liked in Sunderland before leaving, had offers to go back to the Scottish Premiership, but he chose to go back to Poland, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Good to see former Sunderland faces finding success

Even if it might not seem like it, the Black Cats could benefit if Stryjek finds success elsewhere.

The success of a player who was once a member of the academy will only serve to raise the caliber of their youth program.

Particularly goalkeepers appear to perform exceptionally well after rising through the Sunderland levels. Jordan Pickford, the best player in England, is the clear option, but Anthony Patterson is now the Black Cats’ top pick.

In order for the team to be able to draw in the greatest players in the nation, perhaps, young goalkeepers will see the Sunderland players’ sustained success at the club and if they leave.
