According to Givemesport, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.

The England international had a rough 2023/24 season with the Bees, missing several months due to an 8-month ban for betting violations. Toney only made a comeback in January this year. He had a strong start, scoring four goals in five games, but did not score again for the remainder of the season.

Despite this, he remains highly-rated, and according to Givemesport, United and Spurs are willing to invest £40 million on the 28-year-old. Brentford are now determined that they would not take anything less than £60 million for their prized asset, even if his contract is slated to end in June of next year.

Potential deal

Manchester United are looking for a new center-forward as Anthony Martial prepares to leave on a free transfer. The Frenchman’s current contract ends at the end of the month. Instead of pursuing a youthful striker to contend with Rasmus Hojlund, the Red Devils may look for an established Premier League player.

Toney was out of sorts in the final months of last season, but this was understandable given his lack of match preparation throughout the first half of the season. With a full pre-season under his belt, he might resurrect his form from the 2022/23 season, when he scored 20 goals in the English top flight.

Spurs are also apparently interested in his services. Richarlison and Heung-min Son battled for consistency in the latter part of the season, and the club clearly needs another striker to contend for positions. Toney would be a fantastic signing for both clubs, and he may be persuaded to join them to play in Europe.

Brentford are now reluctant to lessen their expectations for the striker, who manager Thomas Frank described as’remarkable’. Their stance, however, may alter in the coming weeks if Toney does not agree to new contract conditions. They don’t want to lose him on a free transfer in 12 months.
