Journalist suggests ‘talented’ £42.5m player is more likely to sign for Newcastle than Tottenham

PSR is putting pressure on Newcastle United, but it’s also a position where they may win.

The Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations are allegedly demanding that the Magpies sell someone by June 30 in order to comply, but they are not the only team facing pressure.

Nottingham Forest is under pressure as well, having previously lost ground to rival teams in the previous campaign due to PSR violations. Fortunately, it prevented them from being demoted.

However, it appears like they will have to sell, which could be detrimental to their chances of keeping Morgan Gibbs-White.

Newcastle United interested in Morgan Gibbs-White

The 24-year-old player, who would be a fantastic fit at St. James’ Park, is Forest’s most marketable commodity. Gibbs-White is incredibly adaptable, youthful enough to continue developing, yet experienced enough to be a leader right away.

The £42.5 million player, who Alan Shearer has described as “talented,” fits many of Newcastle’s requirements, which is why the Magpies are interested in signing him this summer.

Journalist Graeme Bailey recently told Geordie Boot Boys that Gibbs-White is a player who Toon supporters would definitely love to see join should Forest be forced to sell. Bailey believes Gibbs-White would be a terrific addition to Eddie Howe’s side.

Journalist thinks Newcastle move is more likely than Spurs for Gibbs-White

Because of his skill, Gibbs-White is drawing a lot of interest; Tottenham Hotspur is one of them. But after hearing some “whispers” on Tyneside, journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport he believes Newcastle has a better chance of signing him.

“My suspicion is that Newcastle would be the most likely team to sign him if he leaves Nottingham Forest, but doubts about his future there still persist,” he stated.

Although Spurs are also being linked, I would lean somewhat in favor of Newcastle at this early stage based on certain rumors I’ve heard about their team.

“A beautiful player to have, he would be such an intriguing addition to that Newcastle team, gaining ground behind Isak.”

“We understand that finding an attacker for Newcastle’s right side of the attack is their top priority, but I would still keep a watch on Gibbs-White and how his situation begins to open up.”

Newcastle deal would feel opportunistic

Newcastle will spend the most of their transfer cash on a right winger because they are in the market for one.

However, Gibbs-White is not truly a right winger, so a trade for him won’t be cheap. He could play out there, for sure, but it’s not the ideal place for him. Although he can also play a little deeper in the middle of the pitch, his most effective role is that of an attacking midfielder.

Therefore, even though he is not quite what Newcastle is looking for, he could still be very helpful.

With Gibbs-White in the middle, Joelinton could be able to shift out wide, as was intended to happen until all of the injuries last season. This could allow Newcastle to alter their style of play.

Given that Gibbs-White may be available due to PSR, Newcastle may feel compelled to use this opportunity. However, the Magpies may have to sell themselves in order for some dominoes to fall.

As the PSR deadline of June 30th approaches, only time will tell.
