Former Sunderland youngster lands interesting summer transfer and is set for Champions League chance

Wycombe Wanderers released a former Sunderland academy prospect, and he now has a major European move.

Max Stryjek, a former young player for Sunderland, has completed his move to Poland and will participate in the Champions League.

After leaving Wycombe this summer, Stryjek became a free agent. He chose to sign with Jagiellonia Bialystok, who won the Polish top division for the first time in their history last season. This implies that they will play in the second qualifying round of the most prestigious club football competition, and Stryjek might play a significant part.

The former Polish youth international joined Sunderland’s academy in 2015, but despite being selected on the bench for two different Wembley finals, he never played for the senior team. In 2017, he decided to depart in quest of senior football on a regular basis. Despite being well regarded, the young player believed that his chances of making the first team were slim given Jon McLaughlin’s stellar play at the time. Following wildly successful stints at Eastleigh and Livingston, Stryjek made the switch to Wycombe Wanderers, where he immediately cemented his position as the team’s best player. However, as it became apparent that he would be leaving after his contract expired, his season came to an odd end. On an emergency loan, Stryjek joined Crewe Alexandra, where he was instrumental in helping the team advance to the League Two play-off final. Crawley Town ultimately prevailed over Crewe.

The 27-year-old reportedly turned down offers to play in the Scottish Premiership in favor of moving to Poland. A summertime reorganization is underway in Sunderland’s goalkeeping department, with Alex Bass joining Notts County. He will be replaced by seasoned goalie Simon Moore, while Nathan Bishop’s future is also uncertain.
