Former Rangers + Sunderland star seeking free transfer this summer after contract talks fail with current club

After failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with Wigan, Jordan Jones, a former winger for the Rangers and Sunderland, is searching for a new team.

Although the forward joined the Latics in 2021, he was loaned to Kilmarnock and St. Mirren during some of that year. In 33 games the previous season, he finished with three goals and nine assists.Jones made his professional debut at Middlesbrough before having a significant effect with Kilmarnock from 2016 to 2019.

His future transfer is still to be decided. After earning a move to Rangers, he spent two years there, part of which he spent on loan at Sunderland. “It’s with a heavy heart to announce that my time representing Wigan Athletic has come to an end,” the attacker wrote on X.

“Contract talks are over, and although I am sad to be departing, I understand the club’s circumstances and wish them the best of luck going forward.

“I want to express my gratitude to the entire staff for helping me rediscover my love for football, especially the first team staff with whom I worked last season. A special thank you goes out to my team members from the last three years; together, we have created lifelong friendships and memories, and I hope the best for you all.

“The team has several excellent young players who will rise to the top. Last but not least, a huge thank you to all of the fans for their support over the past several years.

“As I’ve previously stated, I’m appreciative that you witnessed me enjoy my football last season following a challenging few years, and I have cherished the bond we have developed. Best wishes for the future and thanks again.
