Tottenham refuses to go with the €60 million mainstay despite connections to Real Madrid

With David Alaba’s injury concerns and questions about Nacho Fernandez’s durability, Real Madrid’s main goal this summer will be to acquire a new centre defender.

Leny Yoro, a youngster for LOSC Lille, is overwhelmingly considered Real Madrid’s first pick. However, Los Blancos’ upper management is amenable to considering alternative possibilities.

Cristian Romero, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur who has made a name for himself in the Premier League after relocating to North London, has been linked to Real Madrid in recent days.

Tottenham not interested in selling Romero

But it looks like there has been a significant obstacle in Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Cristian Romero.

Fabricio Romano claims that Tottenham Hotspur has no intention of selling their standout defender in the upcoming summer.

Romero has emerged as the team’s defensive anchor over the past several seasons, so this latest development from Spurs is hardly shocking.

Romero impressed spectators with his aggressiveness and leadership abilities during nearly 100 competitive matches since joining the team in 2022.

What should be Real Madrid’s play here?

Without Tottenham Hotspur’s consent, Real Madrid’s chances of completing a summer transfer for Romero seem extremely slim.

Romero’s deal with Spurs runs until 2027, so the Premier League team has the financial clout to keep him around.

Real Madrid needs to go elsewhere as a result. As previously stated, Leny Yoro has become the team’s priority defensive target, although Los Blancos are having trouble justifying the Frenchman’s salary.

The market offers a number of additional options. However, it’s unclear how Real Madrid will approach it specifically.
