“More of a grafter” – Teddy Sheringham tells Spurs to sign £60m star over Conor Gallagher

In an exclusive conversation with FootballFanCast, Tottenham great Teddy Sheringham advises the club to prioritise a £60 million star over Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for their summer recruitment plans.

Spurs set to make more attacking signings after Timo Werner

After agreeing to keep Timo Werner on loan for another season, it’s expected that manager Ange Postecoglou would seek additional attacking players.

The German signed a temporary contract with Spurs for the second half of 2023/2024, with the option to make the agreement permanent for approximately £15 million.

Chairman Daniel Levy has renegotiated the terms to keep Werner on loan until 2024/2025. The new arrangement includes a cheaper buy-option clause of £8.5 million for next summer.

Tottenham fans will also be delighted to learn that, following the confirmation of Werner’s stay, the club is set to make even more attacking additions, according to reliable journalists such as Alasdair Gold.

Postecoglou performed admirably in his first season without club-record striker Harry Kane, with the majority of their goals coming from Son Heung-min, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski.

Son’s contract expires next year, while Richarlison is considering a move to Saudi Arabia if the appropriate offer comes along.

Spurs are reportedly interested in Crystal Palace offensive midfielder Eberechi Eze as a potential forward option. There are reports that Postecoglou’s side will shortly initiate discussions for Eze, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s likely departure might open the door for them to make a move for strongly linked Chelsea player Gallagher.

Teddy Sheringham urges Spurs to sign Eze over Gallagher

However, Levy and the rest of the recruitment team only have so much money to spend this summer, so they’ll have to think carefully about their next steps.

Sheringham, a commentator and Spurs favourite, has pushed Spurs to sign Eze instead of Gallagher. He believes the £60 million Englishman is a better fit for Postecoglou’s style of play.

Sheringham stated, “I like Eze – probably more so than Gallagher,” when asked who would be the best fit.

“The more guys who can open up a defence, especially with Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, the better. He likes players that can get on the ball and open up defences, so I’d go with Eze, though I also like Conor Gallagher. Gallagher is different from Eze in that he is more of a workman and a grafter who gets things done, but I’d be pleased for him to join Tottenham as well.”

Eze excelled under both Roy Hodgson and Oliver Glasner last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting six times in all competitions, earning a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

Levy may be willing to spend £60 million for Eze, who averaged one goal every 208 minutes, according to fellow analyst Alan Hutton.
