Exclusive: Everton agree deal to sign Aston Villa star after bid accepted

Everton have agreed to buy Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, according to Football Insider sources.

The 20-year-old is likely to join the Merseyside club permanently, expanding their options in central midfield.

Everton have had a bid accepted for the England Under-20 international after a breakthrough in talks and he is now closing in on a Villa Park exit this summer.

The price will be in the range of £10 million, as Villa seeks to raise funds amid concerns about meeting Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Football Insider reported earlier this month (7 June) that the Midlands giants needed raise £60 million in player sales this summer. Iroegbunam is highly regarded within the Aston Villa hierarchy, but he has battled to find playing time under Unai Emery.

He appeared 15 times for the senior team in the 2023-24 season, but only played 288 minutes. The teenager did play home and away against Ajax in the Europa Conference League, which Villa won 4-0 on aggregate.

Football Insider revealed in March that the Dutch giants were interested in Iroegbunam, but Everton now appear to be leading the battle to recruit him.

Aston Villa have already sold homegrown stars like Aaron Ramsey and Jaden Philogene to comply with PSR, and the former Queens Park Rangers loanee is set to become the next exit.

He made 28 starts and 33 total games for the London club in the 2022-23 season, playing across the midfield in his most comprehensive professional experience to date.
