Everton want to sign Manchester City player, yet to make debut for Pep – report

Everton have entered the market to recruit Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson this summer, according to FTBL.

According to an Australian source [18 June], the 21-year-old has several teams interested in his predicament, with the Toffees and Portsmouth vying for his signature.

His future is expected to be resolved in the coming weeks, as he has been a regular in City’s training but has never made a senior debut under manager Pep Guardiola.

Everton to battle for Alex Robertson signing this summer

The 21-year-old midfielder spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Pompey, appearing in 27 games as the club won League One and was promoted to the Championship.

However, his successful period as a favourite at Fratton Park came to an abrupt end when he sustained an injury that has kept him out since New Year’s Day.

There are no concerns about his abilities on the game, as he has already earned two caps for the Australian national team after rising through England’s youth ranks.

Robertson is yet to make his senior debut at the Etihad Stadium, which might secure his departure from the Premier League champions this summer, and the Toffees are eager to seize the opportunity.

Sean Dyche’s midfield is a cause for concern heading into the 2024/25 campaign, especially if Amadou Onana is to leave Goodison Park in the transfer window.

While James Garner and Idrissa Gana Gueye are good possibilities in the middle of the pitch, the latter has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, so the club has to address that.

If Robertson is healthy and ready after his long-term injury, he might be an excellent addition to Dyche’s team, albeit his lack of Premier League experience may alarm some.
