Everton ‘agree’ first summer signing with exit of Arsenal, Aston Villa target likelier than ever

Everton have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, who could be a replacement for exit-linked star Amadou Onana.

Before turning in their accounts on June 30th, the Toffees need to balance the books, which will require more work and a tight budget.

As we have continuously stated, in order to make sure they don’t violate the Premier League’s financial regulations once more, Everton will probably need to complete at least one sale before that deadline.

Onana has not hidden his desire to join a premier league team this summer, viewing his time playing for Belgium in the Euros as a sort of “audition.”

Numerous teams have expressed interest in the talented 22-year-old, including Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and, tragically, Aston Villa.

Everton to sign Aston Villa midfielder

According to transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke, Everton have ‘agreed a deal in the region of £10m’ to sign Aston Villa midfielder Iroegbunam.

As per O’Rourke’s report for Football Insider, the 20-year-old is set to join the Merseyside club on a permanent deal, adding to their midfield options.

Iroegbunam, James Garner, Idrissa Gana Gueye, and Abdoulaye Doucoure will be Sean Dyche’s alternatives in the middle of the field if Andre Gomes departs Everton at the end of this month, if Onana is sold.

Villa benefits from the Iroegbunam agreement because they are also trying to raise money in light of their own PSR issues.

The 6’9″ centre midfielder is highly regarded at the Midlands club, but under Unai Emery, he has struggled to find opportunities, therefore it would probably be better for his career to transfer elsewhere.

Iroegbunam made 15 appearances for Villa in 2023–2024 but only played 288 minutes.

His performance in the Europa League, both at home and away against Ajax, was the high point of his campaign.
