Aston Villa have reportedly secured the free acquisition of a 19-year-old with a clear connection to Erling Haaland.
According to reports, the Villans have signed Norwegian Under-18 international Ethan Amundsen-Day after his contract with Danish club FC Copenhagen expired.
The centre-back has never played for the main squad, but he has 68 appearances and 4,568 minutes at academy level, spanning the Danish Under-19 Boys League and the UEFA Youth League.
Danish publicationTipsbladet reports. Amundsen-Day was very aggressive before the expiration of his Copenhagen deal, securing a transfer about two weeks in advance. Villa has reportedly signed the Norwegian, who will join the Under-21 squad.
The agreement has yet to be properly disclosed by either club, although it is stated that everything is final. The term of Amundsen-Day’s contract has not been disclosed, but there will be no transfer fee, making this a low-risk transaction for Villa.
Villa signing has similiarity to Erling Haaland
Amundsen-Day shares an unusual connection with Manchester City superstar Erling Braut Haaland, since both were born in Leeds but grew up in Norway. Amundsen-Day’s first club was Fredrikstad FK in Norway’s top division, the Eliterserien, while Haaland’s was Bryne.
Villa’s new academy signing has British citizenship because he has an English father and a Norwegian mother, making it easy to obtain a work permit. Villa is anticipated to complete his agreement on or around June 30, when he will officially move from Copenhagen.
