Transfer rumours and news: Matt O’Riley to Atletico Madrid, Beto to Fenerbahce, James Trafford to Newcastle United

Celtic reportedly raised Matt O’Riley’s asking price to €40 million (£33.8 million) due to interest from Atletico Madrid.

O’Riley has 27 goals and 34 assists in 121 games for Celtic since arriving from MK Dons in January 2022.

O’Riley, a prominent member of Brendan Rodgers’ team, is uncertain about his future with Celtic in 2024-25.

Despite failing to make a reported €21 million (£17.8 million) bid in the January transfer window, Atletico remain interested in the 23-year-old.

Celtic’s valuation was previously estimated to be €29 million (£24.5 million), but AS has now reported a rise to €40 million (£33.8 million).

According to reports, Atletico will need to sell midfielder Saul Niguez before pursuing a summer transfer for the Celtic player.

With Atletico wanting roughly €20 million (£16.9 million) for the 29-year-old, they are hoping that his sale will pay a portion of their bid for O’Riley.

Everton's Beto celebrates scoring their first goal on December 19, 2023

Fenerbahce has opened negotiations with Beto.

Turkish club Fenerbahce is allegedly interested in signing Everton striker Beto during the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese attacker had a rough first season in the Premier League after joining Everton from Udinese last summer.

Beto made just nine Premier League starts in 2023-24, scoring three goals in 30 games.

According to Sabah, Fenerbahce is interested in Everton’s 26-year-old player and could offer him a transfer.

Fenerbahce is reportedly in talks to sign Beto, as Jose Mourinho seeks to improve his forward options ahead of his debut Turkish Super Lig season.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Toffees will agree to a sale only a year after signing Beto.

Trafford keen on Newcastle move

James Trafford, the Burnley custodian, is reportedly interested in joining Newcastle United this summer.

The Magpies are looking for a new custodian to compete with Nick Pope, as their second-choice option, Martin Dubravka, appears to be leaving.

Trafford has been highlighted as a potential target, with the 21-year-old expected to depart Burnley after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Trafford is interested in joining Eddie Howe’s team and is seeking a new challenge, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

According to the source, Burnley are asking £20 million for Trafford after rejecting Newcastle’s original bid of £16 million last week.

The Magpies are still trying to make headway in negotiations, but they are prepared to walk away if they are unable to reach an agreement with Burnley.
