Aston Villa and the “incredible” £35 million target are now in daily communication.

In an attempt to close a deal, Aston Villa is rumored to be in daily communication with the agents of one specific target who was just called up for Euro 2024 at the last minute.

News about Aston Villa transfers

Villa Park supporters will be looking for some good transfer news as soon as possible, given rumors that Douglas Luiz is leaving to join Juventus. Even if Unai Emery is expected to acquire Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior in exchange for Luiz, it will be very challenging to replace Luiz’s caliber.

Villa may now be free to focus on bolstering Emery’s team this summer as they aim to produce some upsets in the Champions League, sparing them from a profit and sustainability charge as a result. Regarding that front, Tammy Abraham, who previously played well on loan and then had a stint at AS Roma, has already been linked to the Villans. He might now move permanently back to the Midlands and England, which would increase Emery’s attacking options.

He’s not the only person who might be moving to the Midlands. As they try to close a deal, Aston Villa is now in regular touch with Ian Maatsen and his representatives, according to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider. The left-back for Chelsea, who had a season-long loan spell at Borussia Dortmund that made headlines, is said to have a £35 million release clause, which is proving to be a sticking point in discussions.

Although a deal is not yet finalized, Chelsea is reportedly willing to sell Maatsen, and Villa are clearly interested in this as they try to assemble a team that can place in the top four of the Premier League for the second consecutive year. They have been in daily contact with Maatsen’s representatives.

Maatsen’s “fantastic” replacement for Digne
There’s no denying that Maatsen deserves to be starting for a team at that level every week after working his way into the Champions League Team of the Season; therefore, a summer transfer from Chelsea should be planned. In the hopes of replacing Lucas Digne at Aston Villa, the Dutchman will want to carry that form into the Euros.

Emery would have more attacking options down the left side with the Chelsea player, especially when it comes to driving with the ball and winning possession away from it. Therefore, having Digne as a backup would indicate that Villa Park’s team is improving.

Unsurprisingly, Maatsen received a lot of accolades while he was at Dortmund, including from Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout, who called the left-back “fantastic” on X.

Even though the player is still only 22 years old, Villa may be preparing him for years to come as a left back; however, it remains to be seen if they can come to a deal with Chelsea.
