Newcastle United eye summer move for Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United is eager to sign Barcelona center-back Andreas Christensen this summer.

The 28-year-old was not interested in the move, and former Barca boss Xavi did not want to let him go either since he was too crucial to his team. Nevertheless, the Magpies tried to buy him during the January transfer window.

The former Chelsea player is now again the focus of Newcastle, and manager Eddie Howe thinks that the Denmark international will greatly strengthen the Magpies’ defense.

With Hansi Flick taking over as manager of Barcelona, Christensen has acknowledged that he is excited to work with the German.

Though they signed him for free in the summer of 2022, the La Liga team may be willing to cash in on him given their financial difficulties. Selling him will help them in their attempt to balance the books.

After missing out on European qualification completely, Newcastle might be willing to spend big this summer, and getting the Dane could be quite beneficial.

Christensen is a player worth signing because of his versatility in addition to his quality and Premier League experience.

Because of his ball-playing abilities, the defender can also play as a defensive midfielder. It seems that this is one of the reasons that drew Newcastle to him. He played in this role frequently throughout the 2023–24 season.

Christensen persuaded to depart the Catalans for a team that is not in Europe and is unlikely to become so after he played 42 games in all competitions last season, starting 37 of them.

The title contest might be really tough.

Given the caliber of player he is, the Magpies will be hoping to entice him away from Nou Camp, and their chances of succeeding in doing so will be immense.
