Exclusive: Important transfer updates on Arsenal, Manchester United, and Aston Villa are given by Fabrizio Romano.

Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the Amadou Onana situation as he’s linked with Arsenal and Aston Villa, while his future at Everton could also impact Manchester United’s pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Romano revealed that Arsenal has long had an interest in Onana, having the Belgium international on their list both in January and last summer, but they never made a serious approach for him. Romano made this revelation exclusively to CaughtOffside for his most recent Daily Briefing piece.

According to Romano, it appears that things are still the same as they were before, with no direct discussions taking place despite the fact that Everton and Arsenal both value the 22-year-old youngster.

Romano has downplayed any connections to Aston Villa, stating that closing a deal with Juventus to trade Douglas Luiz and get Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior in exchange will continue to be their top focus.

Onana transfer latest and how it impacts Branthwaite to Manchester United

Romano also provided some insight into why Everton are holding firm on Branthwaite, as they won’t accept any low offers for the defender while they anticipate interest in Onana.

I’ve fielded a lot of questions regarding the Amadou Onana situation. Everton is not accepting any offers from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite because they feel something could happen for Onana this summer. They received an offer of £35 million plus add-ons from Man United, but they declined because they want at least £65–70 million, so it’s not an easy task, Romano stated.

However, it’s equally critical to note that Everton anticipates moving forward with Onana. Although there have been whispers regarding Arsenal, they have not yet received a formal proposal. Onana is a guy that Arsenal has been keeping an eye on; they decided not to speak with him either in January or last summer.

“Onana is being watched by Arsenal, but as of right now, there are no direct contacts. We’ll have to wait and see, but Everton is expected to make a move for the Belgian midfield player.

“Onana has also been connected to Aston Villa, but from what I understand, Villa is still focused on the Douglas Luiz trade, wherein Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior go to Juventus.”
