Manchester United threaten Everton over Jarrad Branthwaite transfer amid new bid update

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are “threatening” to drop their attempts to buy Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite

According to Ryan Taylor’s article on the paper’s website on June 15, the Old Trafford club is “poised” to return with a better approach after their first offer of £43 million with add-ons was rejected at Goodison Park.

However, they will reportedly inform the Toffees that if a deal cannot be reached on “reasonable” terms, they will move on to other targets.

United, who have new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in control of football operations, have “no intention” of meeting Everton’s £70 million asking price.

Alternatives to Branthwaite include Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, Lille’s Leny Yoro, and Crystal Palace’s England international Marc Guehi.

New bid incoming at Everton from Old Trafford

Assuming the Toffees’ claim that they are not under pressure to sell the 21-year-old is correct, the threat that United will move on if a cut-price deal is not reached appears to be bogus.

Everton are hoping to sign Amadou Onana to help them keep Branthwaite for less than a hefty amount, and various offers are now flowing in for the Belgian midfielder [Times, 14 June].

So, if the objective in Manchester is to hunt for a cheap deal and then move on if it proves difficult, they may be forced to stick to that strategy.

It appears to be the ideal solution for Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell to sell Onana for a profit while remaining steadfast in their attempts to remove Branthwaite from Goodison Park.

Developments are beginning to take shape in that manner, and if United is unable or unwilling to pay the England international’s asking price, the conversation may come to a stop.

All sorts of things may happen during a transfer window, so no conclusion is completely ruled out, but the current standoff between Everton and Manchester United does not lead to a deal.
