Harry Redknapp makes Postecoglou prediction after ‘very average’ Spurs season

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has spoken out about Ange Postecoglou and what to expect next season at the north London club.

Harry Redknapp feels Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Tottenham was “very average,” but predicts that any disagreements with the club’s fans will be forgotten.

Despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on the eve of his first season, the Australian managed to finish fifth in the Premier League, surpassing Tottenham’s previous performance with more points, goals scored, fewer conceded, and a more attacking style of play.

Spurs missed out on the top four by two points due to a late wobble and early elimination in domestic competitions, leading Redknapp to view the season as poor.

“I really like Angel Postecoglou. I like him a lot. But what do I make of the season? It was a fairly ordinary season, with the team losing both cups early and failing to finish in the top four. “I wouldn’t say it was a fantastic season,” he admitted while promoting fantasy football game Sorare.

“At the start of the season, I couldn’t imagine Spurs falling out of the top four; I thought the team, the players, would undoubtedly make the top four this year and possibly win a cup, but Tottenham were eliminated early in both domestic tournaments. I couldn’t say it was a fantastic season, and I’d be lying if I said it was.”

Postecoglou and Spurs fans clashed late in the season after he claimed he couldn’t comprehend their desire for their club to lose to Manchester City in order to prevent Arsenal from gaining an advantage in the Premier League title chase. Redknapp expected that any conflict would soon be forgotten.

“Any disagreements between Ange and the fans will be swiftly forgotten. Winning feels fantastic, but losing a few games may be devastating. As a manager, you’re either amazing or useless; there’s no in-between,” he explained.

“I believe Graham Taylor said, ‘Your manager’s never as good as you think he is, or as bad as you think he is; he’s usually somewhere in the middle.'” That is undoubtedly the situation with Ange. We can’t praise the performance and quality of the football after the first ten games, just to turn on the manager and the team when they go on a bad run.

“You have to be patient; Tottenham is a club with that squad, and I’d be disappointed if they didn’t finish in the top four. I certainly expected them to finish ahead of Villa this year.

“The top three were different classes this year, and Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool will be back next season. Certainly, I believe Arsenal will challenge Manchester City for the title next year. But I still see Tottenham in the top four. Chelsea are a long way off; they still have a lot of work to do, and I don’t see them as a title contender or even cracking the top four again. Manchester United, too, faces significant challenges. Spurs have a strong chance of finishing in the top four next year.

Redknapp believes Tottenham’s biggest issue this summer will be finding a striker to fill the void left by Kane’s move to Germany.

“Finding a striker to buy is Spurs’ biggest difficulty. “Who do they get?” he asked. “They’ll have a chance in the Europa League next year, so perhaps it’s time for them to win a trophy at Tottenham.” The League Cup and FA Cup are also viable options.”
