Aston Villa passes Tottenham in the competition for a 162-goal striker, and the deal is “almost” done.

Aston Villa has reportedly outperformed Tottenham Hotspur and is now the best-positioned team to bring Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League amid Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Jhon Duran.

In January 2023, Duran signed with Aston Villa after paying Chicago Fire £18 million to sign him. The 20-year-old Colombian was thought to be a long-term project at Villa Park, but he may soon depart after scoring eight goals in 49 games.

Although Duran hasn’t played at the highest level much, insiders have told TEAMtalk that Chelsea is nearing a £40 million deal for him. Duran and Enzo Maresca’s side have already agreed on personal terms.

Due to his departure, Villa will have to look for a new center forward so that Ollie Watkins has competition and is covered.

Abraham, a former Chelsea star who hopes to return to England, will be up for sale by Roma this summer, as TEAMtalk exclusively revealed on June 6.

Some of the first teams to be connected to him were Tottenham and West Ham United. However, Villa has now joined the search for Abraham.

The most recent reports from Italy state that Unai Emery’s team has taken the lead for the Englishman.

With the proceeds from Duran’s sale, Villa’s president of football operations Monchi is anticipated to go on a “assault” and sign Abraham.
Transfers to Aston Villa: Tammy Abraham might come back.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 162 goals for the club in 385 games over his career, is “close” to making a Premier League comeback, with Villa Park showing the “hottest” interest.

In the event that Monchi and Roma come to an agreement, it shouldn’t take long for the player to agree on personal conditions.

Abraham’s 2018–19 loan stint at Villa, when he scored 26 goals in 40 games and helped the West Midlands team go through the play-offs, is a memory he cherishes.

Emery already has Watkins as a reliable option, so signing Abraham would give him two excellent alternatives right away. It’s unclear, though, if Abraham would be content to serve as a backup.

After all, Watkins concluded the 2023–24 season with 27 strikes in 53 games, which was a tremendous campaign.
