Following an ankle injury sustained while serving for his country, Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko has received good news from head coach Serhiy Rebrov of Ukraine.
When Ukraine defeated Moldova 4-0 on June 11 [X], Mykolenko sustained another injury to his ankle ligament while defending a corner at Goodison Park during the Merseyside Derby.
His hopes of competing at EURO2024 appeared to be over, but Rebrov has now provided the most recent information following a scan of the problem.
Rebrov stated, as quoted by Liverpool World: “Mykolenko will have another MRI scan tomorrow in addition to the one he previously had.
“After the first incident, I feel much calmer now, but we shall see.”
Vitalii Mykolenko injury update hits Everton
Mykolenko, who recently finished his second full season at Goodison Park, is without a doubt the team’s best option on the left side of defence.
Due to injuries, he only made 28 Premier League games last season; but, given his current struggles and the events of June 11, the Blues may need to find a replacement for him.
The main issue facing Everton is their inability to afford a high-caliber signing; Dyche appears more likely to extend a contract to Ashley Young, a right-footed left-back who can also play at left-back [Liverpool World].
Ben Godfrey is another player who may play this position, however reports have him leaving Goodison Park [talkSPORT].
A move for a player such as Godfrey, or even the high-profile acquisitions of Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite, would free up money for Everton to invest in a substitute for Mykolenko. However, it is unclear whether his most recent injury setback would push the Toffees to make a deal.
In other Everton news, a £94.2 billion update has surfaced, adding another twist to the Toffees’ takeover narrative.
