The midfield player is still playing for his country even though he is now on loan from Ibrox to Cruzeiro, where he will remain until January.
Despite starting and playing for 63 minutes in the victory, Cifuentes has drawn criticism for his on-the-night performance on June 13.
The Ecuadorian publication Primicias has questioned why he began playing the game and has implied that he struggled with it.
They claimed: “It was hard for them to cover their backs as Bolivia scored more goals in the second half. He is just another player who didn’t deserve to start in this Cup game.
Journalist Carlos Xavier Arguello confirmed this on June 13 via X, stating that because of the anonymity of his performance, he “did not appear.”.

After moving from Los Angeles FC to the Gers in 2023, the 25-year-old has only made 20 appearances for the team.
Since then, he has been on loan at Cruzeiro, but there’s a chance he might return in January to strengthen Philippe Clement’s team.
Cifuentes started for Ecuador against Bolivia, but he did not play in their opening friendly against Argentina on Monday, June 10.
During his 63-minute cameo, he only managed 36 touches, but he made 24 passes with an accuracy rate of 89%, which is a plus.
The midfield player’s defensive play disappointed him as he lost two duels and failed to win a tackle.
It’s evident that the Ecuadorian media was not impressed with his performance, and the forthcoming Copa America may see him struggle for extended periods of time.
In front of a possible return to Ibrox in the winter, the Rangers loanee might make an appearance in the competition and raise his reputation.
In other Rangers news, Yusuf Kabadayi’s cost was agreed upon at Ibrox, therefore Philippe Clement will have to consider transfer priorities.
