Barcelona is apparently preparing a late hijack attempt to derail Aston Villa’s swap agreement with Juventus.
Douglas Luiz is on his way to Juventus, while Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling Junior are expected to go, but Barça might spoil the party late on.
With Luiz now available for sale due to Villa’s issues with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), there has never been a better time for clubs to make their moves.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Catalan giants have been watching Luiz for some time. Sporting director Deco sees him as the perfect candidate for the midfield double pivot. It is also stated that Luiz’s representatives had “insistently contacted” Barcelona in recent days.
Despite having previously agreed to personal terms with Juventus in a four-year deal worth roughly €5 million per year, the midfielder is very interested in joining Barça. However, Barcelona could provide a more intriguing football challenge as they compete for the La Liga crown against a fiercely competitive Real Madrid.
