The Rangers are pursuing a transfer since the player is “ready for medical

Regardless of the midfielder’s contract status, the Dons would be entitled to a compensation sum due to interest from English and Italian clubs.

Rangers have reportedly increased their interest in Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron as his contract is about to expire.

The players are scheduled to depart Pittodrie as free agents, and according to The Scottish Sun, Philippe Clement’s team is “at the front of the queue” to win the Scotland under-21 international this summer.

Many European clubs are vying for Barron’s signature. Three of the top Italian teams, Bologna, Sassuolo, and Cagliari, are Serie A teams. Bologna is hoping to bolster their Scottish roster following their successful acquisition of Lewis Ferguson two years ago.

It’s still thought that the 21-year-old has suitors in England, but if he moves this summer, Aberdeen will have to pay compensation, which may reach £500,000 if he moves outside due to cross-border regulations.

A transfer to the Glasgow giants is reportedly gaining momentum, though, as Barron may have to return to Scotland for a physical and to end his vacation in Portugal in order to negotiate a contract. If he completes a move to another Scottish team, the Dons won’t know how much money they’re going to get until after a Scottish tribunal rules.

Barron made an impression at the close of the previous season under interim manager Peter Leven. He has also been linked to Middlesbrough and Swansea City of the EFL Championship. Before Stuart Armstrong and former Gators star Ryan Jack, who had been doubted for the tournament due to injuries, recovered in time, he was on the verge of receiving an unexpected call-up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland Euro 2024 roster.

Barron is thought to be open to talking about moving to Glasgow as Philippe Clement looks to add more players to his new-look squad after already acquiring Jefte, Oscar Cortes, and Clinton Nsiala this summer. Prioritizing senior international honors is likely on Barron’s mind.
