Scott McKenna acknowledges that people who follow the teams have already enquired about the potential and that he is not shocked that he has been linked to a Rangers or Celtics move.
After leaving the Premier League team on a free transfer, the former Nottingham Forest defender has been mentioned for both the Light Blues and their Old Firm opponents. However, he claims that contract negotiations have not yet taken place about his next move.
He isn’t ruling out signing with any team, but his primary goal is to represent Scotland at Euro 2024 with Steve Clarke’s team.
As reported by the Scottish Sun on June 12, McKenna stated, “I am open to anything.” Nothing would ever be ruled out by me. However, speculation has always been limited to that.
“It has never really progressed past that point, and I don’t really have much to think about until something beyond that occurs.
“Really, no contract negotiations have taken place anywhere. If the chance comes, my only goal is to try to spend as much time as possible here with Scotland; there isn’t a larger store window than this one.
It’s only reasonable to have Old Firm rumours when you have teams the size of the Rangers and Celtics. There will be those who support both sides, and since I know a lot of them, they will doubt you. However, there is nothing to report.

Even before the transfer window officially begins, Philippe Clement has made substantial progress in his defence, landing deals for youthful central defender Clinton Nsiala and left-back Jefte.
Nevertheless, even with Leon Balogun’s contract extension, a more experienced arrival at the position would not be shocking because the latter has not yet played a senior game for AC Milan.
The Rangers back line has struggled with instability for a number of seasons, with injuries and form playing a part in the frequent changes. Connor Goldson’s inconsistent play last season contributed to this instability.
Ben Davies and Leon King, among others, may depart the team this summer as Clement organises yet another Gers restructuring.
However, McKenna’s 27-year-old connections to Celtic have always been stronger, so it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if he ended up at Parkhead instead than Ibrox in the competition to sign him.
Given their workloads and limited resources, Clement and Nils Koppen might be interested in signing the free agent, but it doesn’t appear that anything will happen with the former Forest player, who spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at FC Copenhagen. At least not until after the Euros.
