Next season, Harry Winks will play against his old team, Tottenham, for the first time since leaving for newly promoted Leicester.
Harry Winks, a midfielder for Leicester, is hoping to reunite with his old team, Tottenham, during the first weekend of the Premier League.
Spurs, who placed sixth in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge, will find out their 2024–2025 top flight schedule at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18. After opening the previous season with a home game against Southampton, Spurs traveled to Brentford for their first match of the current campaign.
Clubs all throughout the nation have been using social media to create anticipation ahead of the fixture reveal day next week. Many players have been asked by newly promoted Leicester who they would prefer to play against first. Following their Championship victory, the Foxes were promoted back to the Premier League.
When Winks was questioned by Leicester about his ideal opponent, the England international stated that Tottenham would be his first choice for the opening weekend match. Mads Hermansen and Ricardo Pereira would prefer to play Chelsea, while Stephy Mavididi would prefer to play Arsenal.
After progressing through Spurs’ development system, Winks made his first-team debut in November 2014 against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League by substituting in the second half. That turned out to be his lone senior game that year as Mauricio Pochettino forced the midfield player to hold out for more chances.
It wasn’t until the beginning of the 2016–17 season that he was given a regular opportunity in the Tottenham squad by Pochettino, who offered Winks a chance to play. In November 2016, Winks made his Premier League debut as a senior starter against West Ham. He went on to participate in 33 games that season as Spurs finished second.
After shining in the Champions League match against Real Madrid in 2017–18, Winks established himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham starting lineup. That persisted throughout the ensuing years, and in 2019 Winks was a major factor in their advancement to the Champions League final.
But under Jose Mourinho and subsequently Nuno Espirito Santo, Winks’ Tottenham career began to stagnate, and Antonio Conte didn’t use him as much as he would have wanted. Winks moved to Sampdoria for the 2022–2023 season as a result, although he left to sign a permanent contract with Leicester last summer.
