Chelsea has agreed to spend £42 million to buy Jhon Duran from Aston Villa, according to sources.

Duran joined the Villans from the Chicago Fire for £14 million in January 2023, becoming the second-most expensive transfer in MLS history after Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron.

Djordje Petrovic’s £15 million move from the New England Revolution to Chelsea in August 2023 has now surpassed that sum, relegating the Fire sale to third.

Duran has struggled to get minutes under Unai Emery at Villa Park, which is understandable given Ollie Watkins’ superb form.

The 20-year-old started only three Premier League games in 2023/24, but came off the bench 20 times and scored five goals.

He also made only four starts in the Europa Conference League, a competition where you would expect him to see a lot of action.
