Spurs are interested in a flexible Dutch defender who can play at N17 in place of Emerson Royal.

Spurs are pursuing Lutsharel Geertruida.

In the forthcoming summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur has shown interest in signing highly-regarded Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

But according to Soccer News, Arsenal, the Lilywhites’ next door rival, will compete with them for his signature as the Gunners try to boost their defensive depth before the new campaign begins.

Due to Geertruida’s outstanding performances in the Eredivisie, a number of elite clubs are vying for his signature, creating a fierce competition. Premier League teams have expressed interest in him due to his flexible profile, and he has been an essential part of the Feyenoord setup under Arne Slot. The 23-year-old can play on either flank (full-back) or as a central defender.

Is he able to take Emerson’s spot at Spurs?

Emerson is expected to receive approval from Tottenham. Due to Royal’s departure during the off-season, the Brazilian ace’s versatility was useful in the just finished season. Originally a right-back, Royal was able to play both left-back and in the center of defense. An excellent substitute for the Milan-connected full-back would be Lutsharel Geertruida.

Due to his tendency to come across offensively whenever he gets the chance, Geertruida does fit with Ange Postecoglou’s attacking mindset playing style.

If Spurs were able to acquire the 23-year-old, who has produced nine goals and five assists in the previous campaign, it would be a huge addition to their roster.
