Ayr United’s financial windfall boosted by Celtic fans

We talked about how Celtic announced that they would play Ayr United, led by Scott Brown, in a friendly at Somerset Park on July 5th of next month.

Ayr chose to assign another stand to the away team in order to accommodate the growing demand from the Hoops fan base for additional tickets for the Celtics.

Here, Graeme Mathie, Managing Director of Ayr, details the financial benefits the Championship team anticipates from the match and explains why the additional stand was extended to the Celtic supporters.

“We’re going to have six thousand of one team and four thousand of another, and we are unlikely to get six thousand Ayr fans for this game,” Mathie stated [Ayr Advertiser print edition, page 40].
