Six 49ers stars among NFL’s most profitable merchandise sales

The 2024 NFL season is quickly approaching, and 49ers supporters have already shown how devoted they are by snatching up whatever San Francisco gear they can.

Two 49ers players cracked the top 10 and six overall placed in the top 50 in the NFL Players Association’s year-end player sales list, which was revealed on Monday. The ranking covered the period from March 1, 2023, through February 29, 2024.

The list also included tight end George Kittle (No. 16), defensive end Nick Bosa (No. 23), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (No. 26), linebacker Fred Warner (No. 40), and running back Christian McCaffrey and quarterback Brock Purdy (Nos. 5 and 8, respectively).

According to over 85 NFLPA licensees, including Fanatics, Outerstuff, Nike, Fathead, FOCO, and Funko, the rankings take into account all officially licensed, NFL player-branded merchandise sold from traditional and online retail outlets. This includes apparel like jerseys, wall decals, pennants, collectible figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, plush, drinkware, pet products, and much more.

On the most recent top 50, the 49ers have the most players with four, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles.

And with San Francisco’s most recent Super Bowl success, it makes sense. The 49ers broke NFL records in the two weeks before the big game by selling 100,000 jerseys and more than $25 million worth of goods. McCaffrey was also ranked No. 5 in the February rankings (which covered the period of September 1 through November 30, 2023), whereas Purdy was ranked No. 13 at that time.

After his first full season in the NFL, the 49ers quarterback—who was once dubbed Mr. Irrelevant—has flourished in the limelight and is currently ranked among the top 10 most profitable players in the league. And following his NFL Offensive Player of the Year victory the previous season, McCaffrey, who recently inked a historic two-year contract extension with the 49ers, is more well-liked than ever.

It’s no secret that the 49ers have a strong roster, and the most recent NFLPA merchandise sales list demonstrates how much of an influence they have both on and off the field.
