WHAT HAPPENED TO CHARLY MUSONDA?

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO…CHARLY MUSONDA?

In January 2018, Brendan Rodgers signed Charlie Mosesonda from Chelsea on a highly anticipated 18-month loan.

The Belgian, a promising 21-year-old prospect at the time, was desired by a number of teams, including Real Madrid of Spain, so the move was hailed as a signing coup for the Hoops manager.

Musonda joined in the beginning of the year, but he didn’t make an impression and only made three starts in five games—aside from a noteworthy cameo in which he assisted Callum McGregor for the game’s lone goal against Zenit St Petersburg a month after his arrival.

There were still twelve months on his contract when he was brought back to Stamford Bridge.

Musonda was released by the London club in June of last year after only seven appearances since joining the team in 2012 and rising through the youth ranks.

The offensive middle-of-the-park player, who was born in Brussels, was loaned to three teams: Celtic, La Liga team Real Betis, and Netherlands team Vitesse.

Musonda played for the Chelsea Under-23 team for two seasons prior to his departure last year, which was arranged by then manager Thomas Tuchel.

After receiving a trial with Belgian team Zule Waregrem, he disappeared without accepting his contract offer.

28-year-old Musonda and Spanish second-tier team Levante reached an agreement in August 2022 for a two-year contract. Despite making 17 appearances, he was unable to score a single goal.

After just six games with the first team, he was let go by Getafe in September of 2023, having moved there in January. In the same month, he signed a deal with top-tier Cypriot team Anorthosis Famagusta, which runs through June 2026.
