Rangers edge closer to signing speedy Sima alternative

Rangers edge closer to signing speedy Sima alternative.

Rangers and one of their recent transfer targets seem to have worked out a price.

The manager of Glasgow Rangers, Philippe Clement, is not slowing down in his efforts to bolster his team in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

The Belgian is currently searching for a third addition to the first team pool after adding Brazilian left-back Jefte and Colombian winger Oscar Cortes.

Rangers transfer news

German reporter Florian Plettenberg first revealed the reports a few days ago, citing links between the Light Blues and Yusuf Kabadayi, the winger for Bayern Munich.

The Ibrox team has reportedly held conversations with Bayern regarding a transfer for the player in the upcoming weeks, and the two parties have

agreed on a cost between £1 million and £1.55 million to bring him to Scotland, according to the 4th Official’s Patreon page on Sunday, June 9.

Even if Clement might need to let go of a few players to free up money for new acquisitions, it seems like a wise choice to invest about £1 million on

a gifted attacker who has the potential to grow in value. The club needs some depth out wide, that much is certain.

It seems that Clement was targeting Abdallah Sima prior to 2024–2025, but Kabadayi may be a great substitute for the 22-year-old.

The latest on Abdallah Sima’s future at Rangers

Sima spent last season at Ibrox on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, enjoying a productive temporary spell north of the border.

Across 39 matches in all competitions, the winger scored 16 goals while chipping in with two assists. There is no doubt this figure would have been higher had he not missed a large chunk of the season with a hamstring injury.

Last month, it was reported that Rangers were looking to hold talks with Brighton over making Sima’s stay in Glasgow permanent.

It was claimed the south coast side would accept a bid of around £6m in order to let him leave, which was roughly what Brighton paid to sign him from Slavia Prague.

While it was clear interest was there, a new update has emerged recently which could see Clement move on from Sima.

The Seagulls are currently searching for a new manager after Roberto De Zerbi left the club at the end of last season. With the hunt still ongoing, Sima’s future allegedly won’t be decided until a new head coach is appointed.

Judging by the rapid advancement of a deal to sign Kabadayi, could Clement be moving on from attempting to sign Sima this summer? Especially if he has to wait another few weeks to find out whether Brighton’s new manager wants to keep the winger.

Why Yusuf Kabadayi is a great Abdallah Sima alternative

The Light Blues no longer sign over-the-hill players on huge salaries who have little to no sell-on value. Clement has a great opportunity of turning a profit since the two intriguing young players the Gers have signed so far should see a huge increase in value if they perform well in Scotland. In this sense, Kabadayi also meets the criteria.

The 20-year-old had great success with several Bayern youth teams, making 78 games, contributing 11 assists, and scoring 29 goals. Not to be taken lightly, this total of 40 goal contributions in just 79 youth team games demonstrates that he, like Sima, has an excellent eye for goal.

The fact that no other winger at the team scored more than five goals last season, save from Sima’s 16 goals, indicates that this is an area that needs to be much improved if Clement hopes to contend with Celtic the following year.

Despite the fact that Kabadayi only made his senior debut last season—spending it on loan at 2. Bundesliga side Schalke—it is clear that the German teenager has a lot of promise. Throughout 2023–24, the 20-year-old performed better than his teammates in 23 games played in the second division, scoring four goals.

In the German second division last season, Kabadayi was ranked fourth among his colleagues for successful dribbles per game (1.1), while he was ranked third for penalties won (one) and shoots per game (1.6), indicating his potency in the final third.
