Report: Mourinho wants Spurs midfielder to be his first signing at Fenerbahce

Mourinho transferred Hojbjerg from Southampton to Tottenham four years ago, and Milligazete suggested this week that the midfielder may rejoin with the former Spurs boss in Istanbul.

Hojbjerg was a first-team regular for Tottenham under Mourinho’s guidance, but he has slid down the pecking order this season, with Ange Postecoglou preferring Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has attracted transfer interest.

Fenerbahce’s interest in the Tottenham player has now been confirmed by Sabah, who claim that the 28-year-old is free to leave the North London club and that Mourinho has selected him as a top target.

According to the report, the Portuguese coach intends to make Hojbjerg his first acquisition as he aims to reclaim the Super Lig crown from local rivals Galatasaray in the upcoming season.

Fenerbahce is ready to begin negotiations with Tottenham.

In fact, it is believed that Fenerbahce is now ready to begin official transfer talks with Tottenham and the midfielder, having previously approached the player last year.

Last season, Hojbjerg started only eight Premier League games for Tottenham and was come off the bench 28 times.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hojbjerg is at the prime of his career, and I don’t see him wanting to move to Turkey at this point, especially when he’s drawing interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is obvious that some Turkish media sources would publish reports linking Mourinho to some of his former teammates.

One thing is certain: with Hojbjerg entering the final year of his contract, Tottenham must cash in on the Dane this summer or risk him committing to a pre-contract deal in January.
