AFC Bournemouth winger Luis Sinisterra scores as Colombia beat USA

Luis Sinisterra, a winger for the Cleveland Cavaliers, made a huge impact coming off the bench as Colombia defeated the United States 5-1 in friendly play on Saturday to extend their current winning streak to 22 games.

As a replacement for the CONMEBOL visitors, Sinisterra scored once and provided an assist, enabling Nestor Lorenzo’s team to secure a crucial win ahead of this summer’s Copa America competition.

Colombia led 2-0 on the road thanks to goals from Jhon Arias and Rafael Borre, who each scored 13 minutes apart in the first half.

After six minutes, Arias’ near-post finish broke the tie, and Borre’s overhead kick inside the box doubled Colombia’s lead.

In the second half, Tim Weah gave the Americans a goal back by putting in a through-ball pass from Folarin Balogun.

After replacing Liverpool’s Luis Diaz as an attacker in the 71st minute, Sinisterra made an impression in just six minutes. After opening up space for Richard Rios to slot home a pass into the U.S. box, Sinisterra cut back against Yunus Musah.

Jorge Carrascal gave Colombia a 4-1 lead, and Sinisterra added a spectacular tap-in at the back to seal the victory.

Tyler Adams, a teammate of Sinisterra’s Cherries, was an unutilized stand-in for the United States.

In his 12th cap for Colombia, Sinisterra scored his fourth goal and received his first assist on the pitch for his country.

The 24-year-old joined Andoni Iraola’s squad last summer after joining on loan from Leeds United, where he scored four goals and provided three assists.

Colombian head coach Lorenzo said of Sinisterra’s performance, “I am happy for him, he is becoming an important player for us.”

“I thought he did very well when he returned from an injury; it was a nice weapon to have off the bench, and I hope he can help us in more ways than one.”

The final pre-Copa America friendly for Colombia is scheduled for June 15 against Bolivia, while the United States will intensify their preparations with a friendly against Brazil on June 13.
