Aston Villa and transfer boss Monchi are preparing to make an official bid for one £25.5 million defender, dubbed the “big star” of his country.

Villa announced pre-tax losses of little under £120 million for the 2022/23 season in early March, which has raised concerns among supporters.

NSWE proposed to the Premier League at a recent summit that teams’ losses be increased over a rolling three-year period.

The current ceiling is £105 million within that time frame, and Villa requested extra leeway with a new £135 million restriction.
