Man Utd ‘expecting’ Jarrad Branthwaite transfer as Everton price tag revealed

Jarrad Branthwaite has long been a Manchester United transfer target, and Everton’s financial troubles have put the Red Devils in a strong bargaining position ahead of a vital date.

Manchester United plans to sign £75 million-rated Everton player Jarrad Branthwaite by the end of this month.

Branthwaite, a 21-year-old centre-back, is a priority target for Manchester United during the summer transfer window. Despite Everton’s financial difficulties, Old Trafford officials remain optimistic about a possible deal. The highly-rated defender was left out of England’s Euro 2024 team after making his debut for the Three Lions in a 3-0 friendly win against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday.

The FA prohibits clubs, agents, and players from contacting each other about transfers while on England duty. Therefore, if Gareth Southgate had called up Branthwaite, this may have been a problem. Everton have until June 30 to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

A big-money departure would help the Toffees avoid another points deduction, as Branthwaite is considered their most sellable asset, with a contract until 2027. According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton value the 21-year-old at £75 million. Goodison Park officials believe he should command a higher price due to his English heritage and left-footedness.

Meanwhile, United are considering alternative targets if Branthwaite proves too expensive given their own financial issues.Crystal Palace’s Marc Geuhi, Wolves’ Max Kilman, Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Red Devils insiders also insist that they will not be held hostage over Branthwaite.

Everton must pay Carlisle United 15% of any fee received for the centre-back due to a sell-on clause agreed with when he moved from Cumbria to Merseyside in January 2020. Branthwaite’s absence from Southgate’s team for the European Championship has sparked criticism from Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.

Carragher tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Jarrad Branthwaite should have made the England squad for Euro 2024. “He’s England’s present and future.”

“Ideally, there should be a balance of left-footers. I don’t think putting him ahead of the others was the best decision at this point. We took a calculated risk with Luke Shaw at left-back and believe it was worthwhile.

The summer transfer window will officially start next Friday, June 14.

Southgate explained his contentious choice to leave Branthwaite at home during a press conference, saying, “It’s a little early for Jarrad. He has had a fantastic season, and it was great to see him on the pitch the other night.
