Lions get punishment after admitting to work rule violations

During their recent off-season activities, the Detroit Lions engaged in excessive on-field contact.

NFL teams are in the OTA season, and many of them are looking to develop players and unearth hidden stars. The Detroit Lions, who are preparing for a new season under head coach Dan Campbell, are one such team. It appears that the Lions’ desire for rough play backfired on them this Friday amidst their ongoing activities.

Adam Schefter, an ESPN insider, shared a photo of Campbell on Instagram along with the following caption:

“Lions will lose their practice on Monday, June 10th, after they acknowledged that they “violated player work standards pertaining to on-field physical contact pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.”

To put things in perspective, the NFL and its Players Association have a collective bargaining agreement that outlines the guidelines and restrictions for offseason training regimens. Live contact is usually limited to the teams’ required training camps, which begin in late July, and is forbidden during OTAs.

Even though Campbell and the Lions will miss a practice day, they will undoubtedly regroup and pick up where they left off. After perhaps their best season in team history, Detroit is making their first trip to the NFC Championship in more than thirty years. Although they narrowly lost out on going to the Super Bowl, the team’s offseason actions suggest that they could very well be a title contender once more.

The Lions have been making quality moves 

Amon-Ra St. Brown, a wide receiver, Penei Sewell, a blocker, and standout quarterback Jared Goff were all allowed to rejoin the Lions. Detroit was also successful in maximising free agency. Josh Reynolds, Jonah Jackson, and C.J. Gardner Johnson may have left the squad, but they were rewarded with a slew of new players. The defence will be strengthened by D.J. Reader (DT), Carlton Davis (CB), and Marcus Davenport (DE), while lineman Kevin Zeitler steps in to take Jackson’s spot at guard.
