With a new multi-year contract, Jannik Vestergaard gets rewarded for Leicester City’s comeback.

With a stellar season leading Enzo Maresca’s defense, the Danish center back turned around his career at the club and inked a contract that would last until 2027.

A new three-year contract has been given to Jannik Vestergaard by Leicester City in recognition of his outstanding season.

The 31-year-old Danish center back, who marshalled the defense from the center and ping-passed passes through the lines, was a key component of Enzo Maresca’s system as City won the championship. Throughout the campaign, Vestergaard played fewer minutes than just Wout Faes, Mads Hermansen, and Harry Winks.

Vestergaard turned around his tale and his standing with the team throughout that season. After failing to make an impression in his debut season, Brendan Rodgers left him out in the cold and it appeared like he would be leaving the team.

However, Maresca got him back in the running, and it turned out great, with Vestergaard emerging as one of City’s top players. Having only made 10 Premier League appearances for the team in the two years after joining for £15 million from Southampton, he will now want to play a regular role in City’s return to the top level.

Given that Maresca is currently at Chelsea, the duration of Vestergaard’s new deal is probably going to cause some controversy among City fans. In the Championship, the Dane was able to counteract the effects of his lack of pace with his defensive prowess and intellect, but against the best strikers in the Premier League, that might be more challenging.
