The reason Aston Villa should finalise the Tottenham move has already been revealed by Unai Emery.

Unai Emery is reportedly targeting a reunion with Giovani Lo Celso this summer

Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur is allegedly a target for Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery to join this summer.

The midfield player spent the second half of the 2022–2023 season on loan at Villarreal, therefore he only started four Premier League games the previous season. Naturally, on both of the instances that Lo Celso joined the Yellow Submarine, Emery was the Villarreal manager.

Following two assists in 28 league games in his first season, before starting 11 times in 2020–21, Lo Celso failed to make an impression at Spurs and moved on loan for Villarreal in January 2022. Lo Celso was someone Emery wanted to add to his team to give it more versatility.

Following Lo Celso’s signing by Villarreal in 2022, Emery declared: “Giovani is a player I know, having had him at PSG.” He was excellent at Betis, which aided in his transfer to Tottenham. We decided to bring him in when the opportunity arose because of his versatility as a player. We’ll make an effort to improve with him.”

“I wanted to play for Villarreal,” stated Lo Celso. I appreciate the board and the club believing in me enough to let me come here. I knew the coaching staff, and Emery. The team plays for attractive goals.” “He is a coach that knows how he works and what he can give you,” he continued. I like the way this squad plays, and they are a very appealing team to watch. We need to move up the table, but we’re good.

Before the Argentinian star thrived in La Liga with Real Betis, Villa manager Emery also worked with Lo Celso at Paris Saint-Germain. Under Quique Setien, he contributed 14 goals in 32 games. This led Tottenham to sign Lo Celso on loan in the summer of 2019; in January of the following year, the club exercised its option to sign him permanently for £27 million, having already paid the Spanish club a loan fee of approximately £15 million.
