Sky Sports ‘U-turn’ after Newcastle United, Everton & Aston Villa transfer bombshell claim

Sky Sports has retracted a report claiming Newcastle United is one of six Premier League clubs ‘under pressure’ to transfer players by June 30.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United is among six Premier League clubs ‘under pressure’ to sell important players by June 30.

According to the research, Newcastle, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and recently promoted Leicester City face the risk of losing major assets before the next financial year.

This comes as clubs seek to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, which limit losses to £105 million over three years. The current year’s PSR calculation deadline is June 30, so any clubs who need to decrease losses will have to sell assets to avoid penalties. Sky Sports referred to the June 30 deadline as a’mini transfer deadline day’ for clubs.

The report has been removed from Sky Sports’ social media platforms.

Newcastle declined to comment on the allegation, but last month, head coach Eddie Howe stated that the club will have to sell players during the summer transfer window, which opens on June 14.

Everton and Nottingham Forest both received point deductions in 2023-24 for violating PSR. According to Thursday’s report, Newcastle and the other five teams would have to trade at least one significant player in order to comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations.

According to the Gazette, Newcastle are not considering selling elite players like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, who have sparked transfer interest. However, if Guimaraes’ £100 million release clause is triggered before the June 30 ‘deadline’, the club may be unable to control the situation.
