The most recent transfers and head coach news for Sunderland that you might have missed

With the transfer window scheduled to begin later this month, the search for Michael Beale’s long-term replacement at the Stadium of Light continues.

Since the end of the season and several transfer deals before the window, Sunderland have been connected to a number of head coaches.

Next head coach latestThe Echo has discovered that Dave Challinor, the manager of Stockport, and Stephen Robinson, the manager of St. Mirren, are not being considered to be the future head coach of Sunderland.

On Thursday night, the two were connected to the head coach position that Michael Beale left open more than a century ago. Pascal Jansen, the former manager of Arizona, was also discussed in relation to a summer move to Wearside.

Following his departure from Dutch team AZ Alkmaar earlier this year, Jansen is unemployed. Sunderland is not currently considering Challinor, who has impressed with Stockport, gaining two promotions in three seasons to move the team from the National League to League One.

After taking over as manager of St Mirren in February 2022, Robinson guided the team to fifth place in the SPL in the 2023–24 campaign. According to reports, the Northern Irishman, Challinor, and Jansen made up the final three. But as of right now, neither Robinson nor Challinor are being considered.

The Black Cats are reportedly considering former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior after the Tigers fired him at the end of the last campaign, according to a different report from Sunderland Nation.

According to reports from the Netherlands, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman may be considering a trade to Ar’jany Martha if Jansen ends up joining Sunderland.

This summer, the 20-year-old winger is scheduled to become a free agent and depart Ajax. Burnley, Sunderland’s Championship rivals, have also been connected to a deal including the left defender.

Martha, who has spent four years with the Dutch powerhouses, is expected to depart this summer despite her ability to play even higher up the pitch. According to reports, the Black Cats and the Clarets are eager to have him compete in the Championship.
