Rangers is “determined” to close the gap with Celtic through wise summer acquisitions.

The acquisitions of Jefte and Oscar Cortes could be the beginning of a very exciting recruitment drive at Rangers.

Jefte, who spent the previous season on loan with Cypriot champions APOEL, signs a four-year contract to join Glasgow from Flurminese. Rangers are still have to purchase Cortes when he returns from RC Lens in France, even if he has agreed to a one-year loan.

In his first summer transfer window as the Ibrox manager, Philippe Clement is keen to instill his own vision in the Light Blues team.

Rangers’ devastating defeat in the Scottish Premiership title race was felt by former captain Barry Ferguson, who expressed his dismay to everyone at the club.

However, he believes that the board will make every effort to close the gap with Celtic, who have already qualified for the Champions League automatically. Attracting players with Mohamed Diomande’s calibre could be essential to achieving that.

Rangers loanee confesses he ‘felt the impact’ of hostility.

“Having been around the club a lot over the last 12 months, I could sense the level of disappointment all around when the title slipped away over the final few weeks of last season,” Ferguson said in a writing for the Daily Record.

However, I also had a strong will to take the situation seriously. In the richest championship in European football, we all know that Celtic will win big the next season, but Rangers can also make it there by qualifying.

“Clearly, there is concern that, with another huge profit on the horizon, Celtic may vanish from sight.

If Rangers have to make do with the Europa League, there will already be a backup plan in place on how to close the budgetary difference. However, if Clement can manage to make it through to the big one, that will be the primary goal for the time being. It would make life much easier for everyone involved.

“That’s why Bennett will have his work cut out in trying to get the new recruits into the building as quickly as possible and, to his credit, three deals have been completed already with Leon Balogun signing a new one year deal, Oscar Cortes penning a new loan with an obligation to buy and Brazilian left back Jefte sorted out.
