Newcastle United target fuels exit talk as Magpies turn attention to cut-price ace who shined at Euro 2020…

The latest reports on Newcastle’s pursuit of a right sided attacker

Newcastle United fans are hoping to see plenty of exciting moves in the summer transfer window as the Toon target an immediate return to Europe after missing out on qualification last term by the finest of margins The Magpies had finished seventh in the table which looked enough for a Europa Conference League spot but Manchester United’s FA

Cup win scuppered those hopes of another season travelling the continent. In recent weeks, the transfer landscape has become clearer at St James’ Park, and with centre forward Alexander Isak and left winger Anthony Gordon scoring nearly 40% of the team’s 85 goals, the contrasting figure of 7% by right sided duo Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy has become a cause for concern.Almiron has been the subject of numerous rumours linking him away from St James’ Park, and with Saudi Arabian clubs and newly-promoted Ipswich Town both showing interest in recent weeks, it remains to be seen whether he has a long-term future in the North East. The proposed price tag of £21m that has been set on the Paraguayan, as per TeamTalk, could be used to facilitate a deal for a new wide option to take the team to the next level.

One player who could potentially fit that bill is thought to be Federico Chiesa of Juventus, according to reports from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport. The 26-year-old has been a household name in European football for a number of years following his scintillating performances at Euro 2020 when he helped guide Italy to their first title in the competition since way back in 1968.

Chiesa is a fundamental part of the set up at the Old Lady and has been a first team regular since making the move from Fiorentina in 2020. However, the attacker’s talks over a new deal at the club are currently stalling and he enters the last year of his deal he could be made available for a cut-price fee of just £21.2m which is nearly half of the £42.5m they were asking for just last summer

Newcastle’s pursuit of a right sided winger has also fuelled speculation of a move for starlet Johan Bakayoko of PSV after a series of impressive performances in the Eredivisie.

Bakayoko smashed in 12 goals in 33 appearances last term, earning him a place in Belgium’s provisional squad for Euro 2024. With the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle both keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

The Liverpool Echo had originally claimed that the youngster was planning to stay in the Netherlands for another season despite speculation, but his latest comments via local Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg have fuelled new rumours as he told the outlet: “The only thing I can say is that next year I will be on a football pitch somewhere.”
