Everton beat Brighton in race to sign teen centre-forward after record-breaking feat – report

Everton are likely to recruit young striker Cerian Loney from Partick Thistle, according per The Athletic.

The news outlet stated via their live blog on Friday (7 June) that the Blues are about to announce the 16-year-old’s transfer from Scottish Championship club Partick.

Loney, the youngest-ever Partick player, is said to have impressed Everton scouts during a trial stay on Merseyside.

According to The Athletic, Brighton and other English clubs were interested in signing the striker, who turned 16 in March.

Everton set to complete their first summer signing.

Kevin Thelwell and his colleagues will have done extensive research on Loney, who only appeared once for Partick Thistle in a 4-1 loss to Dundee United last month.

It’s always wonderful to see a promising young player join the club, but there’s little chance Sean Dyche will consider Loney for the first team right now.

According to The Athletic, the Scottish attacker will join the Blues’ young squads, most likely the Under-18s, because Premier League 2 is a significantly better level than the league in which the 16-year-old previously played for Partick.

Everton boss Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

There’s no denying Everton’s financial struggles. Fans should not expect the team to go crazy in the transfer market this summer, even if new owners arrive sooner rather than later.

PSR is holding the club back, but it’s encouraging to see that there is still some possibility for growth at the youth level.

These are the types of players who can help Everton in the future, and if Loney performs well and makes it into the first team, he may be worth a lot of money and count as practically pure profit in the PSR calculations.
