One of the top midfielders in the world may be available to West Ham for a very low cost.

Although West Ham has always been a topic of discussion in the Premier League, they have never been able to maintain consistency from one season to the next or even within one.

Following West Ham’s dismal start to the 2023–24 season under David Moyes, the team ultimately decided to fire the manager at the end of the campaign due to a run of appalling displays.

West Ham has now made the decision to rely on Julen Lopetegui, a former manager of Sevilla and Wolves who has been praised for his practical approach that emphasises well-organized defence.

In the 2021–2022 La Liga season, Lopetegui led Sevilla to victory against Real Madrid. If West Ham can put together the correct offensive line around him, Lopetegui may be able to provide the structural support needed to take the Hammers back to Europe.

The attack has been the main focus of West Ham’s transfer ambitions, but now, according to Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian, the club is vying for Aleix Garcia, the star of Girona.

The 26-year-old was previously connected to Barcelona and is coveted by Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen; however, West Ham is expecting to outperform these more accomplished teams.

They have reportedly offered just 14 million pounds to sign Spanish international Julen Lopetegui because they see his connection to La Liga as a potential secret weapon.

It’s unlikely that West Ham will be able to sign Garcia for less than that because he actually has a 17 million pound release clause, especially considering suitors like Leverkusen can easily afford the fee.

Garcia has been one of the top midfielders in world football since he broke out for Girona in 2022–2023 after their promotion to La Liga, therefore West Ham should be willing to pay the whole amount.
Garcia was equally effective for Girona, a team that challenged Real Madrid for the La Liga championship the previous season. He averaged well over two combined tackles and interceptions per game in addition to his three goals and six assists.

West Ham is in dire need of some true class in their midfield after losing Declan Rice, and if they can recruit Garcia for a reported fee of 20 million pounds or less, it would prove to be the best summer transfer in Premier League history.
