previous head coach Keith Wyness of Aston Villa has urged his previous team to add a striker and a center-back during the next summer transfer window.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Villa Park from 2016 to 2018, stated on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that more defensive reinforcements are required because Tyrone Mings’ fitness is still up for debate.
Ross Barkley is expected to become Aston Villa’s first summer addition, as Football Insider exclusively disclosed last month (18 May). The deal is almost finalized.
The giants from the Midlands will add eight more games to their schedule the next season as they participate in the Champions League’s league round.
Mings has not played, and there are concerns about whether he will be able to return the following season.In March, he released a concerning report that revealed substantial muscle loss following a major damage to his knee ligament.
Wyness is in favor of Aston Villa acquiring a center back and a striker this summer. Ollie Watkins, according to Wyness, “needs help” in the offensive department for the 2024–25 season.He spoke on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: Since Tyrone Mings’ injury, Villa has undoubtedly needed more alternatives in defense.
“I also believe Ollie Watkins requires more immediate assistance.”Those remain the two regions.
“I don’t know how long it will take for Mings to fully recover from that horrible injury.”These are the two areas I see needing attention before the upcoming season, even though I know he’s put a lot of effort into his rehabilitation and will be welcomed back into the team if he’s playing at his best.
