vision – and Leicester City fans can’t wait to hear it

First, the following was mentioned in David Ornstein’s piece on Enzo Maresca’s upcoming move to Chelsea for The Athletic:

“Chelsea is reportedly cognizant of the inconvenience given to Leicester before to their Premier League comeback and grateful for the grace and expertise they demonstrated throughThe Club is disappointed that Enzo has decided at this juncture that he no longer wants to be a part of our mission, especially considering the excellent foundations laid during his one season in command.

The statement in Ornstein’s article is an example of the kind of big six client journalism that is so patronizing and nauseating that it contributes nothing to anybody. It paints Leicester as little more than a feeder club to one of the people who is mostly to blame for the financial misery that is elite English football. However, it gave Leicester the chance to act professionally in handling Maresca’s departure in public. To use strong language to reassure potential followers and move on swiftly.Rather, what we received was ambiguous and insincere, seeming as though it was hastily put together by someone who had left the office midway through the day. Although supporters don’t always need a catchphrase, it’s occasionally good to read anything longer than the essentials.

It’s interesting to look back at the statement published by Brighton when Chelsea last poached an up-and-coming manager. That was Graham Potter in September 2022.Paul Barber, the deputy chairman and one of three separate members of the club’s executive to be quoted, says: “Tony [Bloom, chairman], David [Weir, technical director] and I have already begun work to replace Graham and to secure the very best candidate for the club.” I have no doubt there will be unprecedented interest in the job, not least because of the excellent work done by Graham but also because of the footballing infrastructure in place at our club.
