James Forrest Scotland Return Verdict

Celtic winger James Forrest made his first Scotland appearance in 1,085 days Wednesday night in the Algarve against Gibraltar.

Despite gaining a completely merited international recall, the veteran was handed a very surprise start by Steve Clarke and started on the left-hand side of a 4-2-3-1.

On the wing, Forrest gave some natural breadth to Scotland, something that has arguably been lacking in their game over the past several years.

He was engaged in some great combinations of play and really should have had himself on the scoresheet in the first half after Andy Robertson cut it back for him eight yards from goal.

Although the Scots were facing one of the lowest-ranked international sides in Gibraltar, the Celt nonetheless turned up and made his contributions to the 2-0 triumph.

Forrest didn’t overtly jump out, but he remained productive and demonstrated he could provide Clarke with something different.

He likely won’t get the nod against Finland on Friday evening, but he will have done his chances of being in the final team for the Euros no harm at all with his display last night.
