Aston Villa would accept ‘superstar’ plus £42.5 million in swap deal for Douglas Luiz

According to reports, Aston Villa is open to taking a player-plus-cash deal this summer for its star player Douglas Luiz. Ahead of the summer, Douglas Luiz has no shortage of admirers following a brilliant campaign under Unai Emery.

The Brazilian has long been coveted by Arsenal, and reports suggest that Manchester United and Barcelona are also interested.

The Aston Villa star’s ascent to prominence is understandable given that he was instrumental in the team’s unexpected top-four finish the previous campaign.

While the Old Lady lacks the financial might of interested Premier League teams, TuttoJuve reports Villa would be willing to take one of their players as part of a deal for the midfielder. Juventus is also reportedly keeping an eye on Luiz.

Villa would accept Weston McKennie swap deal for Luiz

According to TuttoJuve, Villa will not let Luiz go for peanuts this summer.

However, rumours have circulated that they would agree to trade Weston McKennie for the Brazilian.

In fact, Juve would need to make an offer in the neighbourhood of €50 million (£42.5 million) plus McKennie in order to acquire Luiz.

McKennie swap deal unlikely

It goes without saying that Villa must raise money in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League.

It would be shocking if the Villains agreed to a player-plus-cash deal for one of their stars in light of this. Neither did McKennie perform particularly well in his brief stint in England with Leeds United in the 2022–2023 season.

Though he recorded 10 assists for Juventus previous season, the “superstar” midfielder’s form has improved over the past 12 months. However, once Villa secured a Champions League ticket, it would scarcely go down well with the club’s supporters if they offloaded Luiz and brought in McKennie.
