Exclusive: Tottenham could now sign PL star at stunning £60m discount

Tottenham could acquire Brentford’s Ivan Toney for a “surprise” cost of £40 million this summer, according to Football Insider sources.

On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated that Brentford are reluctant to let the England international go once the transfer window reopens next month.

The Bees were reportedly asking for a sum of around £100 million to allow Toney depart the club during the January transfer window.

O’Rourke stated the sum has dropped dramatically, and £40 million could be enough to entice the forward away from west London before his contract expires in June 2025.

Ange Postecoglou’s priority for the summer is to sign a new striker, as reported by Football Insider earlier this month. Spurs are also considering selling Richarlison.

Ivan Toney might join Tottenham in a low-cost deal

Toney has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, as revealed by Football Insider in November last year. The club was ready to compete with some of their Premier League rivals to acquire his contract.

The forward scored 20 goals in the 2022-23 season before missing the first half of the current season due to an eight-month suspension for violating the FA’s gambling rules.

Despite only scored four goals in 17 games since his comeback in January, Toney’s status remains strong after being included to England’s training squad for the 2017 European Championships.

O’Rourke suggested the Englishman is a “ready-made goalscorer” who could come in and make an impact for Tottenham if they sign him.

Spurs are anticipated to undergo significant changes this summer following Ange Postecoglou’s criticism of the team’s “rebuild” efforts.

According to Football Insider, the club would consider offers for nine senior players in the next weeks to raise funds for new recruits.
